The Barrick Africa Middle East Team at North Mara Mine is seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Tradesman – Auto Electrician on a 2-year fixed-term contract.
This role will follow an 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off rotation. North Mara is currently undergoing a significant HME OC Maintenance turnaround, and the primary mandate of this position is to support structured skills transfer and capability development of the national auto electrical workforce.
The key performance indicator for this engagement is the successful transfer of skills and the development of a fully self-sufficient local auto electrical team by the end of the contract term.
The successful candidate will combine hands-on technical execution across the North Mara HME fleet, including CAT 777E/785C haul trucks, CAT 6020B/395 excavators, and Sandvik drill rigs, with a genuine commitment to mentoring, coaching, and building local technical capability.

Responsibilities
The Senior Tradesman – Auto Electrician will be responsible for the following:
- Comply with all Barrick health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and the Mines Health & Safety Act.
- Visibly lead by example in promoting Zero Harm.
- Deliver a structured and formal auto electrical training programme to develop national auto electrical technicians to a competent and independent standard.
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and coach the national auto electrical team on all tasks, ensuring skills are progressively transferred throughout the contract term.
- Provide advanced technical expertise in the diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of complex auto electrical systems on:
- CAT 777E/785C haul trucks.
- CAT 6020B/395 excavators.
- Sandvik surface drill rigs.
- Utilise CAT Electronic Technician, Cat ET, VIMS, Sandvik control system diagnostic tools, and other appropriate diagnostic equipment for accurate fault finding.
- Lead or participate in root cause failure analysis related to electrical failures.
- Implement sustainable corrective actions to eliminate repeat electrical faults.
- Drive improvements in key performance indicators, including:
- MTTR.
- MTBF.
- Equipment availability.
- Electrical maintenance backlog.
- Ensure effective planning and execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on all electrical systems.
- Support the Planning team to improve schedule compliance.
- Ensure proper application of LOTOTO, Permit to Work, arc flash procedures, and mandatory PPE on all electrical work.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in SAP.
- Drive SAP compliance within the auto electrical team.
- Manage and coordinate OEM liaison, warranty claims, and specialist vendor support for electrical systems across the fleet.
- Support the implementation of reliability improvements and best practices within the auto electrical section.
- Perform any additional duties as required by the supervisor.
Qualification requirements
Applicants must meet the following qualification requirements:
- Relevant Auto Electrical Trade Certificate is required.
- CAT Electronic Technician, Cat ET certification is required.
- Sandvik auto electrical and automation systems certification is required.
- Air conditioning systems repair certification.
- Computer literacy in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Valid driver’s licence.
Experience and competencies needed
The ideal candidate should have the following experience and competencies:
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years’ experience as an Auto Electrician on heavy mobile equipment in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- Specific hands-on experience with CAT 777E/785C haul truck auto electrical systems is required.
- Specific hands-on experience with CAT 6020B/395 excavator auto electrical systems is required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with Sandvik surface drill rig auto electrical and automation/control systems is required.
- Demonstrated experience delivering structured skills transfer and training to national teams in a cross-cultural mining environment is required.
- At least 3 to 5 years’ supervisory or leading hand experience within an auto electrical maintenance team.
- Good working knowledge of SAP PM and CMMS work order management.
- Experience with CAT VIMS data interpretation and condition-based monitoring for auto electrical fault prediction.
- Experience in root cause analysis and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
- Medical fitness for the mining environment.

About North Mara Mine
The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania, in the Tarime District of the Mara Region. It is approximately 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.
North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits:
- Gokona underground deposit.
- Nyabirama open pit deposit.
The process plant has the capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
