Key purpose of the role

The key purpose of this role is to implement, manage, and execute asset care routines for the generation of quality results, with the aim of optimizing assurance equipment reliability and availability for value.

Key roles and responsibilities

Asset care and equipment reliability

The Quality Instrument Technician will be responsible for implementing and executing asset care routines to ensure the optimal performance of quality assurance instrumentation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining and improving the reliability, availability, and performance of assurance equipment.
  • Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation systems.
  • Identifying risks to equipment performance and proactively addressing potential failures.
  • Ensuring calibration and validation of instruments meet quality standards.

Quality assurance and process control

The role supports quality assurance and process control by driving quality source ownership to ensure consistent product quality.

Responsibilities include:

  • Understanding and monitoring process inputs and outputs to maintain control of quality variables.
  • Applying and enforcing Quality Focused Requirements.
  • Applying and enforcing QFR reaction plans.
  • Supporting production teams in troubleshooting quality deviations.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Problem solving and continuous improvement

The Quality Instrument Technician will support structured problem solving and continuous improvement across quality and instrumentation processes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting root cause analysis using the 5 Whys methodology and other problem-solving tools.
  • Populating and managing problem-solving tools, including Problem Terminator.
  • Initiating and executing AB reports for performance and deviation analysis.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of corrective actions and sustaining improvements.
  • Participating in continuous improvement initiatives aligned with VPO principles.

Project and systems management

The role involves supporting instrumentation and quality systems projects, including CAPEX-related activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting and executing CAPEX projects related to instrumentation and quality systems.
  • Contributing to the installation, commissioning, and optimization of new equipment.
  • Utilizing digital tools and VPO tools to improve monitoring and reporting.
  • Ensuring proper documentation and knowledge transfer of new systems.

Training and capability development

The successful candidate will support capability development among frontline employees and autonomous teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Training frontline employees on Quality Focused Requirements, reaction plans, and equipment usage.
  • Supporting the development of autonomous teams through technical coaching.
  • Completing required onboarding and technical competency programs.
  • Maintaining 100% compliance with SKAP, the Skills Knowledge and Application Program.

Operational excellence and VPO alignment

The role requires application of Voyager Plant Optimization principles in daily operations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Applying VPO principles in daily operational activities.
  • Participating in autonomous team structures to drive ownership and performance.
  • Using structured problem-solving and performance tracking tools.
  • Supporting achievement of plant performance targets.

Performance and KPI accountability

The Quality Instrument Technician will be accountable for supporting performance improvement and KPI delivery.

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving improvements in equipment reliability.
  • Delivering against Brewery/Business Wide Controls targets.
  • Monitoring and reporting on instrumentation performance metrics.
  • Ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and operational KPIs.

Compliance and safety

The role requires strict compliance with safety, health, environmental, company, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring all work complies with safety, health, and environmental standards.
  • Following company procedures and regulatory requirements for instrumentation systems.
  • Maintaining safe working practices when handling electrical and instrumentation equipment.

Collaboration and communication

The role requires close collaboration with internal teams to support production, engineering, and quality goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with production, engineering, and quality teams.
  • Communicating equipment status, risks, and improvement opportunities effectively.
  • Providing technical input during audits, inspections, and reviews.

Key attributes and competencies

The ideal candidate should have the following attributes and competencies:

  • Completion of Workday 90-day onboarding modules.
  • Strong understanding of Instrumentation Technician SKAP requirements, with 100% completion.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and VPO systems.
  • Ability to apply ATO, Advanced Technical Operator, levels 1–5 competencies.
  • Understanding of process inputs and outputs within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to understand and apply Quality Focused Requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.

Minimum requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • N3 Instrumentation/Electrical National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in an instrumentation, electrical, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience within FMCG.
