The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a Boilermaker to join and grow its Plant Engineering Maintenance team.

Responsibilities

The Boilermaker will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Barrick health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Report all health, safety and environmental (HSE) issues through an incident report.
  • Conduct daily maintenance inspections and execute work on plant equipment.
  • Ensure work completion details are finalized in accordance with work requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure mechanical tools and equipment are maintained and stored according to Barrick and OEM safety standards and procedures.
  • Perform task risk assessments, including JHA and FLRA.
  • Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and report any deviations.
  • Adhere to isolation and lock-out permit procedures.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Perform high-quality planned and unplanned repairs of mechanical equipment in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and environmentally safe work area and apply the 5S principle.
  • Attain and maintain relevant licenses and authorizations required to execute allocated duties, such as Basic Rigging, Working at Heights, and machine operation, including forklift operation.
  • Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment using welders, cutters, shapers, and measuring tools.
  • Fabricate, weld, and install chutes, boxes, pipes, reducers, bends, and Y pieces.
  • Repair and maintain metal equipment and structures of various sizes.
  • Read and interpret diagrams, sketches, and blueprints to determine operations, required materials, and project timeframes.
  • Apply best maintenance practices in repairing chutes, steel tanks, pipes, and steel structures.
  • Apply standard paint on new steel structures and repaired steel works.
  • Assess welded surfaces, structures, and components to identify errors.
  • Examine pressure vessels, tanks, chutes, and pipes to locate defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective sections for repair.
  • Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural components of various mechanical systems.
  • Perform any task as instructed by the reporting line supervisor.
  • Perform basic mechanical fitting, rubber lining, scaffolding, and rigging works as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Clean equipment using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents to ensure equipment and work areas remain clean and tidy.
  • Clean, maintain, repair, and rebuild mechanical parts, components, and equipment as directed by the supervisor.
  • Conduct regular plant and steel structure inspections.
  • Complete breakdown and preventive maintenance work orders on time, create subsequent notifications, and provide feedback on work performed.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools, while examining the form and texture of parts.
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock levels, anticipating required equipment, parts, and supplies, and organizing with the supervisor.
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Be responsible for shift handover in the area of responsibility.

Qualification requirements

Applicants should meet the following qualification requirements:

  • Technical or vocational school training, apprenticeship training, or on-the-job training.
  • FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test, or equivalent qualification.
  • Sound knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practices.

Experience and competencies needed

Applicants should have the following experience, skills, and competencies:

  • Minimum of 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience working on heavy mobile equipment in surface operations.
  • Plant maintenance experience on mills, crushers, conveyors, compressors, pumps, CIL tanks, and related equipment.
  • Working knowledge of equipment safety standards.
  • Previous maintenance experience in an industrialized plant is beneficial.
  • Experience using multiple welding machines, including arc welder, TIG, and MIG.
  • Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
  • Experience in open cast and underground mining is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • VETA Driving Certificate.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving license class B, C, D, and E.
  • Ability to drive manual transmission or stick shift vehicles.
  • Strong technical and strategic planning-related experience and background.
  • Ability to consistently manage a diversified portfolio in a high-pressure environment.
  • Highly professional conduct at all times and ability to deal with a diverse client base.
  • Significant base knowledge of all areas depicted in the profile.
  • Motivation and ability to operate with minimum supervision.

About North Mara gold mine

The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania, in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits:

  • Gokona, which is an underground deposit.
  • Nyabirama, which is an open pit deposit.

The process plant has the capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
