Economic affairs specialist (local researcher) – fixed-term position

Main responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Monitoring, researching and analysing major economic issues and developments in Tanzania and East Africa. Relevant areas may include:
- Trade and investment
- Energy
- Natural resources
- Minerals
- Other related economic matters
- Supporting the preparation of:
- Analytical reports
- Policy briefs
- Briefing notes
- Presentations
- Monitoring economy-related laws, regulations, government policies and administrative measures in Tanzania and the wider East African region.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Hold a master’s degree or higher in a field relevant to economic security; or
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to economic security, with at least five years of relevant professional experience.
Applicants must also be legally eligible to work in Tanzania.

- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
- Strong research, analytical and report-writing skills.
- Good knowledge of Tanzania’s economic, legal, regulatory and business environment.
- Good interpersonal, communication and networking skills.

- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- A proactive and well-organised approach to work.

Employment conditions
Salary
- All-inclusive gross monthly salary: USD 1,500
The gross monthly salary of USD 1,500 is all-inclusive and constitutes the employee’s entire contractual cash remuneration.
The Embassy will not provide any additional:
- Salary
- Bonus
- Performance incentive
- Gratuity
- Contractual severance payment
- Housing allowance
- Transport allowance
- Meal allowance
- Communication allowance
- Medical allowance
- Relocation allowance
- Other allowance, benefit or additional cash payment
This provision does not exclude any payment, contribution or entitlement that the Embassy is legally required to provide under applicable law.
Applicable taxes, the employee’s share of statutory social security contributions and any other legally required deductions will be deducted from the gross monthly salary.
Any statutory contribution that the Embassy is required to pay as the employer will not constitute additional salary or cash remuneration payable directly to the employee.
Probation and contract terms
The first three months of employment will constitute the probationary period. During this period, the employee’s performance, competence and suitability for the position will be assessed.
Employment may be terminated during or upon completion of the probationary period in accordance with the employment contract and applicable laws and regulations.
Successful completion of the probationary period does not guarantee an extension or renewal of the contract.
This is strictly a fixed-term position. It does not create any guarantee or expectation of contract renewal or conversion to indefinite-term or permanent employment.
