Key purpose of the role
The key purpose of this role is to load, unload, and stack materials safely and efficiently while maintaining inventory/materials, governance controls, and customer service standards, as well as supporting production.
Key roles and responsibilities
Effective fleet management
- Conduct pre-trip inspections before the start of each shift using the forklift inspection checklist.
- Ensure the forklift is operated, cleaned, and maintained in optimal condition.
- Ensure fuel and fluids are at accepted operating levels.
Adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards
- Comply with Department of Labour stacking exemptions.
- Maintain and adhere to 5S and site housekeeping standards.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment as designated by site safety standards.
- Adhere to all relevant SOPs and GOPs.
Effective stock quality management
- Maintain warehouse stock age standards by ensuring stock rotation principles are applied, including FEFO.
- Ensure quality control by checking packaging on the warehouse floor and before loading.
Effective inventory management and controls
- Maintain effective inventory management and controls in line with governance policies.
- Participate in the handover process before and after every shift.
- Perform accurate daily stock counts using a handheld device.
- Generate variance reports and resolve discrepancies.
Stock quality management continuation
- Maintain clear and effective communication with inventory teams, warehouse teams, and other stakeholders.
- Accurately check, load, and unload vehicles.
- Use the load summary to load correct quantities of split and full pallets.
- Accurately record returns before unloading.
- Ensure accurate stock movements of finished goods and empties from and onto the lines.
- Complete bin sign-off as required to ensure accurate stock and inventory reconciliations.
Efficient loading and unloading
- Ensure efficient loading and unloading of vehicles and production lines.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with logistics coordinators and team members.
- Complete all documentation accurately and comprehensively.
Production continuity where applicable
- Load empties and raw materials onto production lines while ensuring optimal productivity.
- Remove and stack finished products from the line to the bin while ensuring optimal line productivity.
- Remain conversant with relevant business information, policies, processes, and procedures.

Minimum requirements
- Certificate of Forklift Operation from a recognized institute.
- National diploma or equivalent certificate/diploma in mechanical or electrical field, or technical qualification from VETA.
- Valid forklift driver license.
- Experience operating a double handler.
