Location: Moshi, Tanzania

Role Overview
The Packaging Operator is responsible for operating, maintaining, and continuously improving packaging line equipment to ensure the delivery of high-quality products safely, efficiently, and on time.
The role supports production activities by adhering to safety, quality, environmental, and operational standards while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and team-based problem-solving.
Purpose of the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating packaging machinery, conducting autonomous maintenance activities, ensuring quality at source, and supporting the Asset Care team during maintenance and breakdown activities.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation & Production
- Start up, operate, monitor, and shut down equipment according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Operate equipment within specified design parameters.
- Monitor equipment performance and production processes to ensure efficiency and reliability.
- Perform machine changeovers and equipment adjustments effectively.
Safety, Health & Environment
- Adhere to all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies, procedures, and standards.
- Apply Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTOTO) procedures whenever required.
- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of all machinery under assigned responsibility.
Quality Management
- Deliver products that consistently meet quality standards.
- Perform Quality at Source (QAS) tasks and adhere to quality triggers as outlined in SOPs.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records on designated reporting platforms.
Autonomous Maintenance & Asset Care
- Conduct Cleaning, Inspection, Lubrication, and Tightening (CILT) activities.
- Perform routine inspections using the Look-Listen-Feel methodology.
- Raise maintenance work requests and support condition-based monitoring activities.
- Collaborate with the Asset Care team during preventive maintenance and breakdown repairs.
- Raise preventive maintenance notifications and provide feedback on completed work orders in SAP.
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
- Utilize troubleshooting tools to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Follow escalation procedures and escalation matrices when process deviations or breakdowns occur.
- Implement Manufacturing Management System (MMS) best practices and sustain improvements.
- Utilize business digital platforms and systems, including Orbis, Hartford, STRATA, and other operational technologies.
Cost & Waste Reduction
- Support cost optimization by minimizing waste of:
- Water
- Energy
- Raw materials
- Production time
- Extract losses
- Promote efficient resource utilization across operations.
Housekeeping & Hygiene
- Maintain high hygiene standards by keeping equipment and surrounding work areas clean and organized.
Qualifications
Education
- Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma in:
- Mechanical Engineering, or
- Electrical Engineering
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience operating manufacturing machinery and conducting autonomous maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of manufacturing and packaging processes.
- Understanding of autonomous maintenance principles.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and production issues.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
