In an increasingly digital society, where Tanzania has over\u00a0<strong>30 million mobile phone users<\/strong>\u00a0and rapidly growing use of platforms such as\u00a0<strong>WhatsApp, Facebook, and SMS-based services<\/strong>, digital channels have become critical spaces where beliefs are formed, information is exchanged, and behaviors are influenced.<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing this shift, the SBC Section integrates\u00a0<strong>social and community listening, digital insights, and data-driven approaches<\/strong>\u00a0to generate real-time intelligence on public\u00a0perceptions, misinformation trends, emerging risks, and behavioral barriers affecting children, adolescents, and caregivers. These approaches are essential in a context where digital platforms are often the first point of access to information, particularly for young people and urban and peri-urban populations.<\/p>\n<p>To strengthen analytical capacity and ensure\u00a0the timely\u00a0generation of actionable evidence, the SBC Section seeks an intern to support\u00a0<strong>social listening, data analysis, and the design and management of surveys<\/strong>. The intern will contribute to systematic knowledge generation and support\u00a0programme\u00a0teams in translating digital and community insights into\u00a0<strong>practical, responsive, and impactful programmatic recommendations<\/strong>, ensuring SBC interventions\u00a0remain\u00a0relevant in Tanzania\u2019s evolving digital landscape.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How can you make a difference?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this internship is to support the SBC Section in generating,\u00a0analysing, and translating insights from digital platforms, community feedback systems, and analytical tools\u00a0such as\u00a0Talkwalker\u00a0and U-Report. The intern will\u00a0gain skills and\u00a0expertise\u00a0to\u00a0apply their learning in data science in real time.\u00a0\u00a0The interns will be\u00a0mentored closely\u00a0by the\u00a0Social and Community Listening Analyst to strengthen\u00a0<strong>social listening systems<\/strong>, enhance\u00a0<strong>data quality<\/strong>, and support\u00a0<strong>surveys and\u00a0evidence\u00a0production<\/strong>\u00a0to inform SBC strategies and interventions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The intern will:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Leverage on\u00a0the\u00a0opportunity to apply\u00a0technical and analytical\u00a0skills\u00a0to the\u00a0ongoing\u00a0<strong>social and community listening efforts<\/strong>\u00a0using platforms such as\u00a0Talkwalker, Google Analytics,\u00a0I HEARU,\u00a0and Kobo\/ODK datasets.<\/li>\n<li>Apply skills\u00a0on\u00a0data management, cleaning, summarization, and visualization for SBC insights and routine reporting.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the design, testing, and deployment of surveys\u2014including\u00a0perception\u00a0surveys, rapid polls, and community feedback tools\u00a0such as U-Report.<\/li>\n<li>Support documentation, knowledge management, and preparation of briefs, presentations, and internal updates\u00a0to strengthen evidence-based planning and implementation of SBC interventions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>4. Duties and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under the supervision of the Social and Community Listening Analyst\u00a0and overall guidance of the team lead,\u00a0the intern will perform the following tasks:<\/p>\n<p><strong>A. Social &amp; Community Listening (40%)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitor new conversations across multiple channels, including social media, feedback systems, and digital communities.<\/li>\n<li>Assist\u00a0in\u00a0identifying\u00a0emerging narratives, misinformation trends, sentiment shifts, and public concerns affecting children and youth.<\/li>\n<li>Support the preparation of weekly, situational, and thematic social listening reports.<\/li>\n<li>Assist\u00a0in mapping influencers, digital communities, and engagement patterns relevant to UNICEF\u00a0programmes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>B. Data Analysis &amp; Insights Generation (30%)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support data cleaning, coding, and processing of qualitative and quantitative datasets.<\/li>\n<li>Analyze trends, sentiment, demographic breakdowns, and thematic patterns.<\/li>\n<li>Produce data visualizations (e.g., dashboards, charts, tables) for internal use.<\/li>\n<li>Assist\u00a0in triangulating digital insights with\u00a0programme\u00a0data and community feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>C. Survey Design &amp; Management (20%)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support development of Kobo\/ODK survey tools, including\u00a0XForms\u00a0and simple\u00a0RapidPro\u00a0flows when needed.<\/li>\n<li>Assist\u00a0with translation checks, skip logic, validation criteria, and testing digital questionnaires.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to\u00a0the monitoring of\u00a0live surveys, ensuring data quality and smooth field implementation.<\/li>\n<li>Support preparation of survey summaries and short analytical notes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>D. Documentation<\/strong><strong>\/ Knowledge\u00a0Management and\u00a0Sharing (10%)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist\u00a0in preparing PowerPoint presentations, briefs, and communication products.<\/li>\n<li>Organize files, dashboards, and resources within the SBC knowledge management system.<\/li>\n<li>Support cross-unit collaboration with Health, Nutrition, WASH, Child Protection, Youth Engagement, and other\u00a0programme\u00a0teams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5. Expected Deliverables<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weekly or bi-weekly social listening\u00a0insights\u00a0summaries.<\/li>\n<li>At least two analytical briefs on thematic issues (e.g., misinformation, youth engagement, online\u00a0risks).<\/li>\n<li>Clean, well-organized datasets for surveys and social listening outputs.<\/li>\n<li>A completed survey tool (Kobo\/ODK) with testing documentation.<\/li>\n<li>Final internship report summarizing achievements, lessons learned, and recommendations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6. Administrative and Logistical Note<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two\u00a0interns\u00a0will be\u00a0engaged\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0will receive a monthly stipend\u00a0from the University of Dar-Es-Salaam.<\/li>\n<li>The interns are\u00a0expected to work\u00a020 hours\u00a0each\u00a0\u00a0per\u00a0week unless otherwise agreed with the supervisor.<\/li>\n<li>The intern must provide their own laptop and\u00a0maintain\u00a0appropriate conduct\u00a0in line with UNICEF\u2019s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding\u00a0policies.<\/li>\n<li>Interns must have proof of medical insurance covering their time at the duty station.<\/li>\n<li>Interns are personally responsible for obtaining any required visa, covering the entire period of their internship.\u00a0If necessary, UNICEF will support the process by providing relevant documents such as the proof of internship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>9. Supervision &amp; Performance Review<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The intern will be supervised by the\u00a0<strong>Social and Community Listening Analyst<\/strong>\u00a0within the SBC Section.
