Specializing in developing and implementing landscape-scale forest carbon projects through Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) and Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+), we collaborate with local communities to restore landscapes, create jobs, protect ecosystems, and mitigate climate change.<\/p>\n<p>Our projects integrate nature-based solutions to help meet global emissions targets while ensuring community ownership and long-term sustainability. The Rubeho Mountains Carbon Project, a significant initiative in Tanzania, focuses on native forest restoration and community-based conservation efforts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Summary<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Community Engagement Coordinator leads all Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) and community consent processes for the Rubeho Mountains Carbon Project. The role ensures communities are fully informed, meaningfully engaged, and able to make voluntary decisions throughout the project lifecycle, while providing secondary support to conservation and forest protection activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential Responsibilities\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead and coordinate all FPIC processes across the four phases: awareness, governance clarification, project design, and benefit-sharing\/contract review.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate community engagement and awareness sessions on carbon project objectives, rights, responsibilities, risks, and benefits.<\/li>\n<li>Serve as the primary liaison between the project and communities on consent and decision-making matters.<\/li>\n<li>Identify and ensure inclusion of all relevant community stakeholders, including women, youth, pastoralists, and vulnerable groups.<\/li>\n<li>Translate technical project information into clear, accessible language.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure FPIC processes meet standards of integrity, transparency, inclusivity, and full documentation.<\/li>\n<li>Document FPIC meetings, decisions, attendance, and feedback for compliance, verification, and reporting.<\/li>\n<li>Act as the primary liaison for grievances related to FPIC, participation, benefit-sharing, and community decision-making.<\/li>\n<li>Support conflict prevention and resolution related to consent and engagement processes.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"TextRun SCXW102777395 BCX0\">Support VNRCs and communities to understand conservation and protection responsibilities linked to project agreements.<\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW102777395 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102777395 BCX0\">Participate in conservation-related community meetings where consent or agreement is\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102777395 BCX0\">required<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW102777395 BCX0\">.<\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW102777395 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"TextRun SCXW102777395 BCX0\">Coordinate closely with other team members on community issues affecting protection activities.<\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW102777395 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"TextRun SCXW102777395 BCX0\">Support community understanding of how conservation activities contribute to carbon outcomes and long-term benefits.<\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW102777395 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education + Work Experience\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree in Community Development, Environmental Studies, Sociology, or related field.<\/li>\n<li>Minimum two (2) years of experience in community engagement, community outreach, facilitation, or field coordination, preferably in rural or indigenous contexts.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with rural, indigenous, or marginalized communities is highly desirable.<\/li>\n<li>Exposure to carbon project standards (e.g. Verra, Gold Standard) and social safeguard frameworks (e.g. IFC Performance Standards, UNDRIP).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Skills + Abilities\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Models the Ethos in all professional interactions, demonstrating a commitment to the organization\u2019s values, vision, and conduct standards.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Facilitation + Communication:<\/strong>\u00a0Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills; Office amenities include standard desk space, a computer, and internet access; field facilities may be basic.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work schedule:\u00a0<\/strong>The typical workweek is 40 hours a week; flexibility is required due to community work, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends for meetings or fieldwork.
