Background<\/strong><\/p>\n

Farm Radio International is a non-profit communication-for-development organization dedicated to serving African rural communities through the innovative use of radio and mobile phones. Together with our broadcasting and project partners, we reach tens of millions of small-scale farmers with life-changing information and enable them to have a stronger voice in their own development. Through our efforts, rural radio programs enable women, men and gender diverse people to: share and access information; gain and exchange practical knowledge on agriculture, food and nutrition security, health, education, climate change adaptation; contribute to community and societal transformation; and have their voices heard.<\/p>\n

Farm Radio International (FRI) has been implementing the Interactive Radio for Ecologically Sustainable Agricultural Practices (IRESAP) Phase II project from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2026. The aim of the project is to further increase, deepen and sustain the uptake and implementation of agroecology (AE) in the context of transformative food systems in Tanzania at national level using a collaborative approach spurred by innovative interactive radio. One of the anticipated outcomes of the project is an established sustainable food systems-oriented radio programming with a robust business model that sustains content provision beyond the project period.<\/p>\n

In line with this outcome, FRI has worked with 5 radio stations in Tanzania to implement a rapid market research to understand the feasibility of sustainable food systems-oriented radio programming, potential investor interests and capacity of the radio stations to sustainably air radio programs while covering agroecology themes. Other activities conducted also include training of stations on business and marketing, development of sustainability plans and initial business engagements. It is anticipated that the radio programs will be structured to include partners\u2019 and marketing segments which are informative and advertorial in nature so that stations can raise revenue from various potential investors in agroecology.<\/p>\n

Through this Request for Proposals, FRI is seeking to engage a Business Development Consultant to work with the 5 radio stations in Central and Northern Tanzania to market and secure business deals for the radio program.<\/p>\n

Objectives of the Assignment<\/strong><\/p>\n

The goal of the assignment is to work with 5 radio stations in Central and Northern Tanzania to ensure sustainable food systems-oriented radio programming with a robust business model that will sustain content provision beyond the project period.<\/p>\n

The specific activities related to this assignment are as follows:<\/p>\n

  1. Development of a marketing plan for each radio station<\/li>\n
  2. Work with the radio stations to conduct business engagements with partners within Tanzania.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Key deliverables<\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. 5 Customer value propositions that the radio stations can use<\/li>\n
    2. A minimum of 40 business engagement sessions conducted (at least 8 per station)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Note: The Consultant should be based in Tanzania, with the ability to travel within the country and fluent in Swahili<\/p>\n
